What’s the truth about Oluwo’s claim that Ontario is bigger than entire Nigeria

Nigeria’s controversial monarch, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi has said that Nigeria is a small country not even up to the size of Ontario, a province in Canada.

He made this statement while speaking on Channels Television on Saturday, June 22nd, 2019, on the insecurity and the relegation of traditional rulers in Nigeria.

“Nigeria is a small country, Nigeria is not even up to the size of Ontario, Ontario is only one province in Canada. Saying Nigeria is very small That if Ontario has big has that can guard their borders why can’t we do the same in Nigeria because Nigeria is rich and capable.”

But how true is this?

Hynaija carried out a check and discovered that the monarch was partially right.

Canada is a country in the northern part of North America, It has ten provinces and three territories. The provinces under it are; Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. While the three territories are Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon.

‘‘Ontario is Canada’s most populous province, by a long shot, comprising 40 percent of the country’s total population. It is also home to the federal capital of Ottawa and the unofficial financial capital of Toronto’’.
Ontario is the most populous country in Canada, with more than 13,650,000 people. It is the second largest province in the country by Land area. Ontario is located at central. The capital of Ontario is Toronto which has about 6 million people which makes it Canada’s largest and most populous city.”

Nigeria presently ranks the number 7th in the list of countries by population as gathered by Worldometers and this is according to the UN (United Nation) latest estimates. The population is equivalent to 2.6% of the total world population, and it has a total number of 200,801,334 as estimated by the UN.

A reserch revealed that in terms of population, Nigeria indeed has the highest number which is estimated at
200,801,334 but Ontario has a total population of 15.088 Million.

But in terms of Landmass, Ontario in Canada has 1.076 million km² compared to Nigeria’s 923,763 km².

So, Nigeria is vast in number, but Ontario is larger by Landmass.
