The embattled Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission to present him his certificate of return.
The returning officer of INEC had stated that he declared the senator elect for Imo West senatorial district under duress.
In his statement he claimed that the electoral body does not have any moral or constitutional justification to withdraw his certificate of return due to the allegation placed forward by the returning officer.
Okorocha while speaking with journalist in the government house said, “I cannot understand how a mere allegation of somebody, an individual, talking about duress, which has not been proven by anybody, will stop INEC from giving me my certificate of return for an election that I won properly.”
“I cannot understand why an individual’s report of a professor who lied, will now be taken more than the report by the Nigeria Police, State Security Service, that said there was no crisis, everything was peaceful. The returning officer should be called to order.”
Okorocha called on the commission to release his certificate of return so that the issue will not lead to constitutional and political issue in the country.
