he former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio has served the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chris Ekpenyong a copy of letter summoning him to appear before the election petition tribunal.
The PDP candidate noted that he had received the letter from the tribunal secretary on Tuesday in Uyo, the state capital.
Ekpenyong, who is the senator elect for the Akwa Ibom North West District in the National Assembly stated that he is not moved by the step taken by Akpabio
He call on his supporters: “Remain calm as your mandate has been rescued by the divine arrangement for peace, development and even spread of the dividends of democracy to [email protected]
“You should not be afraid of Akpabio, your mandate is secured in me. The God that allowed your votes to be counted will stand by us to get justice at the tribunal and in various courts.”
Akpabio, who lost in the last National Assembly election took his petition to the state election’s petition tribunal.
The tribunal sitting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, would soon begin hearing on all post 2019 general elections’ matters.
The former Senate Minority Leader, is seeking to upturn the outcome of the February 23 National Assembly election where Ekpenyong was declared the winner by INEC.
The Returning Officer (RO), Dr. Nsikak Senam of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) Department of Communication Art, stated that Ekpenyong scored 118, 215 votes while Akpabio’s scored 83,158 votes.
