The National Judicial Council (NJC) has called a crisis session over the suspension of Walter Onnoghen, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN). The session will be held in Abuja by 10am today, January 28th.
As per sources in the NJC, neither the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria Ibrahim Muhammad or the suspended CJN Justice Walter Onnoghen, will be permitted to manage the gathering.
The NJC is a unit of the legal executive that is in charge of the Assignment, Promotion & Punishment of Judicial Officers. It was in 2016, in charge of the assignment of Justice Onnoghen to President Buhari to be affirmed as the seventeenth CJN. President Buhari had on Friday, suspended Onnoghen & give oath of office to the next most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Tanko Muhammad, as the Acting CJN. He put together the choice with respect to fraud accusations awaiting against Onnoghen. The activity had evoked different responses both inside & outside the nation, coming excessively near a general poll that will begin next month.
