In respect to the absence of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, at the 2019 workers’ day celebrations which took place in Abuja, the Minister has cleared the air that it does not have anything to do with the disagreement with the board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund but due to ill health.
A report had it that Ngige was absent at the workers day celebration which had the presence of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
The Nigeria Labour Congress President, Ayuba Wabba, while speaking had stated that the Minister was absent at the celebration due to their disagreement on the NSITF board.
In a statement released by the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, Nwachukwu Obidiwe, he stated that Ngige was absent due to ill-health.
“Contrary to uncivilized attitude and barefaced lies contained in the address of the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, I wish to state for the avoidance of doubt that the Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige was absent at Wednesday’s Worker’s Day rally for reasons of ill health.”
“The Minister has been down with flu since last Sunday. He met his doctors last Monday and has since been at home recuperating.”
His message was delivered by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Stephen Ocheni.
