Manchester United legend, Darren Fletcher, has called out Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi after he scored a brace which helped his side defeat Liverpool in the first leg of their semi-final.
The Barcelona captain had scored a brace after an opening from Luis Suarez in the first half of the semi-final.
Fletcher in his statement claimed that Messi was not in charge of the game like Cristiano Ronaldo will do for his team.
He further stated that the superstar player did not dictate the tempo of the game.
Fletcher while speaking with BBC Radio 5 Live said, “Messi did not dictate the game tonight,”.
“He was not really in the game but, like we’ve seen Ronaldo do, he came alive to be the decisive goalscorer.”
“You have to give him credit for that.”
“Barcelona didn’t control the game.”
“Liverpool pressed high but credit to the manager Valverde for changing the formation and stopping Liverpool.”
“A combination of the manager and Messi changed the game for Barcelona.”
“People say that Barcelona never changes the way they play but the manager Valverde made it 4-4-1-1 and it freed up Messi to make the difference.”
