The matter between the Federal government & the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has been postponed till Tuesday January 22nd.
This happened after a fierce contention between the defence & arraignment group over the way by which the CJN Justice Onnoghen was been presented with the letter to show up before the CCT.
While Wole Olanipekun SAN, the lead legal representative in Onnoghen defence group contended that the CJN was not directly given the letter of appearance thus can’t show up, the lead legal representative in the arraignment group, Aliyu Umar SAN, contended that Onnoghen’s Personal Assistant got the letter of appearance on the interest of Onnoghen thus there was no explanation behind Onnoghen not to have respected the summons.
Olanipekun anyway contended that serving a court apperance by a representative isn’t satisfactory by law. After much discussion, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Umar Danladi, postponed the case till January 22nd to give space for Onnoghen to be legitimately served.
